New Timetable Poster

Thomas Tilling commenced his commercial empire in London in 1847 and over time his family became major bus operators. In 1948 Tilling Group was nationalised under the auspices of British Transport Commission and later absorbed into National Bus Company in 1969.
Tillings (as they remained colloquially know) were quite parsimonious and were also frugal with expenditure on publicity.
Their huge bus operating businesses with captive markets before the advent of mass car ownership weren’t promoted with enthusiasm. Private Hire, express coach services and coach tours received greater attention, but publicity was confined to these small panels posted in buses, bus side adverts and larger posters for display in bus stations and enquiry offices.
