London Transport Poster - How To Make a Puppet

This poster, by theatrical designer Osborne Robinson, was offered as a diversion and a Christmas greeting. Its three figures - a decorative harlequin with buckled shoes, a ruffled pierrot and a masked ballerina, when cut out and made up, would provide puppets or hanging decorations. They could be purchased at the Poster Shop in Marylebone Road for ten shillings (50 pence). Harlequinade is a British comic theatrical genre, a slapstick variation of the Commedia dell 'arte, where the harlequin and clown play the principal parts.
