In 1876, the Statue of Liberty was formally dedicated by the peoples of France to the United States. Since then it has become a defining symbol of the nation’s democracy, often featuring in the visual arts as America’s proud representative on the world’s stage.

Stan Galli, who worked as a commercial illustrator during the 50s and 60s, is emulating the magic of the colossal statue and her viewing platform with this commission by United Air Lines. His posters of this time are often evocative, playing on the wonders of travel in a new age of convenience and expanding horizons.
